Kids of Steel races are designed to introduce children to the sport of triathlon. During the race, the children complete a swim, bike & run. Distances for each discipline vary by age (as seen below). The main focus of the race is to encourage participants to do their best, have fun & finish.
Race notes:
>Kids require a regular swim suit, bike, helmet & running gear. No other special equipment is required.
>Only kids in the "5 & under" and "6-7" age groups are allowed parental help in the transition area. Parents may also accompany their child on the bike and run courses if they wish to do so.
>Advice and assistance on training and racing is available from race organizers.
>All participants are encouraged to attend a pre-race meeting Friday night at 7 pm at the Athabasca Landing Pool.
>Assistive devices (ie. life jackets, flutter-boards, etc.) may be used on consultation with race director
>The goal of our race is to make it accommodating for ALL abilities. If your child wants to participate but you feel the distance for his/her age is too far please contact Glenda and you can discuss your child participating as an "overage" in a different group.
During the race:
>Lifeguards and lap counters will be on deck at the pool.
>Volunteers will be in the transition area to assist racers.
>The bike and run courses will be clearly marked and volunteers will be on site to assist racers and control traffic.
>Drinks and snacks will be available after the race & all racers will receive a participation award.
